We are slowly waving goodbye to the internal combustion engine

The demise of the internal combustion engine gathers pace; ferries, container ships and service boats such as tugs and tenders will be powered by batteries according to engineering colossus ABB.

It makes perfect sense. Ports and container terminals have huge areas of car parks, storage areas and warehouses which could be utilised for solar energy which in turn could charge the batteries which power the boats.

As the technology becomes more widespread, the efficiency goes up and the costs come down. Great news for innovative engineering firms and countries (like ours) dependent on imported energy. Bad news for big oil stocks which might start to be regarded in the same way as big tobacco - declining businesses being run for cash as they dwindle.
