Daimler Benz announce new programme of floorplan architecture for its next generation of all electric cars

In a move which accelerates the demise of diesel and petrol engines, Daimler Benz has announced that it is to unveil its new programme of floorplan architecture for its next generation of all electric cars.

EVs don’t have engines, fuel tanks, drivetrains or trans-axles. None of the stuff which, in fact, takes up all the space in old fashioned ICE cars. So the base structure for an EV needs to be very different, allowing a very flat floor, and much more space for passengers and all their stuff.

Bold claims are being made for this new generation of electric Benzes, including 300 miles of range and rapid charging. They also claim to be “…heralding a new era of E-mobility..” which sounds a little bit grandiose and suggests that no-one at Daimler has seen what Tesla has been up to.
