Electric aircraft to be developed as an alternative to cars in congested urban space

The FT reports on the race to develop small, electric aircraft as an alternative to cars in congested urban space.

Lilium, as start up founded by two university students in Munich, has secured $90m of development capital from investors for its five seater air taxi. It takes off and lands  vertically – reducing the space needed for getting it in the air - and there is a claimed in-air range of 300kms.

Lilium says it’ll have conducted manned testing by 2019 and will be taking bookings by 2025. Bad news for taxis and helicopter charters.
