Ford, BMW, Daimler Benz and VW are collaborating to speed up the production of electric vehicles

City AM reports some sensible co-operation between Ford, BMW, Daimler Benz and VW; all these marques have ambitious (although as yet, unrealised) plans for new electric models. All presumably now realise that the charging infrastructure isn’t going to happen quickly enough or be as effective as it needs to be to support all these new EVs. So a coming together to develop a shared network, presumably with access only for those driving these brands, will be a winner.

This goes beyond just selling more EVs and giving customers charging confidence; these companies will now have an ongoing relationship with their customers, making money from supplying the energy as well as the car. This is revenue which used to be owned by Esso, BP, Shell and Texaco.
