May saw a sharp drop in diesel sales

A sharp slump in sales of diesel engined cars in May suggests that buyers are finally waking up to the fact that anything with a DERV engine will cost more to drive and may depreciate faster than expected. The Times reports that sales of diesels fell by 25% in the month vs a decline in car sales overall of around 8%.

By comparison, sales of EVs and hybrids rose by almost 50%. The rate at which the UKs car fleet is shifting towards electric motors is gathering momentum.
