The coming death of diesel hits the mainstream again

Another article in the mainstream press - this time The Guardian – about the coming death of the diesel engine.

The asbestos reference might be a bit OTT but we see a parallel with tobacco; there will inevitably be a spike in deaths related to poor air quality which itself will be blamed on the policy of governments, especially European and in particular the UK, to incentivise diesel cars. There will already be lawyers salivating over the prospect of a lucrative wave of compensation cases over the next decade. Shares in those car manufacturers who were big in diesel sales - which is most of them - might not be long term holds once these legacy liabilities start biting.
