Case Study:
ServerHouse Ltd, Fareham, Hampshire

A pioneering data centre provision outside of London

280.28 kWp (728 panel) installation

ServerHouse Ltd specialises in helping companies with their data centre requirements, making sure that their IT services are fully monitored and available 24 hours a day/ seven days a week. The company was established in 1997 as one of the first providers of data centre services outside of London, with its initial Hampshire data centre opening in 2001. Since then, it has grown organically to provide specialist and bespoke internet, cloud and data centre service in several vertical markets, and to operate multiple facilities.

The team at ServerHouse sets itself apart with a can-do attitude that enables it to solve challenging, complex problems and provide high availability, reliable and scalable solutions to meet its clients’ needs; all whilst maintaining a high standard of customer care!

Seriously committed to carbon reduct

ServerHouse continuously monitors and improves its systems to be as efficient as possible. The company is also registered for the UK's Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC). It has implemented various initiatives including free cooling, aisle containment, automated and LED lighting and a rolling UPS replacement programme.

However, the company’s substantial electricity usage, due to its 24-hour a day service provision, meant that electricity costs and carbon output were higher than desired. So, when a neighbouring business recommended solar PV specialist, Mypower, ServerHouse quickly saw the potential for reducing company spend on grid-supplied electricity while improving its green credentials.

In May 2021, Mypower installed a 280 kWp SolarEdge optimised solar array for ServerHouse. As a result, the company will avoid a substantial 56 tonnes of carbon emissions, the equivalent of planting 3,276 trees each year!

ServerHouse will achieve system payback in a little over five years and will make a 69% saving from solar energy, which costs just 4p per kWh compared to grid-supplied electricity at 12p per kWh.

“As a data centre, we use a huge amount of energy. Mypower used every inch of our roof to install a 280kWp solar array in an organised, well managed and professional manner. They offered straight forward advice and put their competition to shame on pre-sales and design making them an easy choice for supply."
