Derbyshire De-Carbonise Project

What is the De-Carbonise Project?

The Derbyshire De-Carbonise project has been created to help SMEs save money and reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. The grants are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with the University of Derby, Derby City and Derbyshire County Councils collaborating to run the project. Funding is available to companies in the Derby City Council area until October 2022.

Who is eligible for a grant?

Small and medium sized businesses with fewer than 250 employees are eligible for the grant. Company turnover must be less than €50m, or a balance sheet total of less than € 43m, and your business must be no more than 25% owned by a company that is not an SME. At least 50% of business income must come from tradingand your business must operate from a business premises plus pay business rates and an electricity/gas tariff. Your business energy usage needs to meet an annual minimum 20,000kWh of electricity or 30,000kWh of gas.

The funding is dependent on the carbon saving, which is determined by a) calculation of typical kWh using the MCS methodology and b) UK Government carbon factors for grid electricity.

A variety of projects could be eligible for a grant, including solar PV. The project value must be at least £2,500, but there is no maximum project value. The West of England Combined Authority has allocated a total grant pot of £1.7m. This will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Your company could be awarded a grant of up to £20,000 to pay for 40% of the cost of your project.

How does the grant application process work?

Mypower are award winning installers of commercial solar PV systems of 50kW and above and we help businesses reduce their impact on the environment, while reducing their costs.

A grant will reduce costs further and, although it is a straightforward process, we always support our customers through the application. The first stage is a free and independent carbon survey and report.

How could a grant help your company?

A grant from the Derbyshire De-Carbonise project could help you:

  • Save an annual average 8 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Reduce energy bills by £1,590 and maintenance costs.
  • Produce electricity at 3.5p per unit versus 15p per unit from the grid.
