10 Companies Harnessing Solar Energy

Every day, more businesses are turning to solar energy to reduce costs and work towards a more sustainable future. We’ve helped many companies around the UK with these goals by installing solar panels. Here are 10 companies Mypower have assisted and the outstanding results they received.

Stewart Golf

Stewart golf design and manufacture powered golf trollies and accessories in Britain. In 2019, they were ready to reduce their environmental impact at their headquarters which is a 10,000 square foot facility. Mypower designed and installed a 49.84kWp solar system consisting of 178 panels on their roof. 15 tonnes of carbon emissions will now be avoided each year which has kept manufacturing costs low too. Two years later in 2021, we installed a further 35.5kWp. This brings their total installed capacity to just over 85kWp and provides over 60% of their annual electricity needs.

JJ Foodservice Ltd

JJ Foodservice are a market leading wholesaler in food, packaging and hygiene products. They contacted Mypower in 2022 for our solar panel services. We installed a 302.4kWp of Solar PV at their Bristol depot and then more across their other warehouses. In Manchester, we installed a 396.10kWp where we replaced the skylights with roof sheets to generate a high amount of renewable energy.  We’re continuing to install across JJ Foodservice’s estate, and will be installing over 8,500 panels or 3.6MWp to significantly reduce the group carbon emissions and electricity costs.

Markey Group

Markey Group are a family-owned business located in Gloucestershire. They compromise multiple specialised subsidiary companies in different sectors including property management and development, health care and more. Mypower helped them create a large solar panel project which we started in July 2022. A crane was used to lift over 2,000 panels onto their roof. In September 2022, this 999.99kWp system went live and it's predicted to generate more than 850,000kWh every year. The system should pay for itself in around 3.4 years, before any benefits or capital allowance is considered.

Wirral NHS Trust

The NHS have goals to be more sustainable and eventually reach net zero carbon emissions. In January 2020, Mypower started installation for a 100kWp solar PV system which consisted of 306 panels at St Catherine’s Health Centre. This system helps to avoid 28 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. Over the first 25 years, the Trust is set to benefit financially from more than £425,000.

IBL Cold Stores

Specialising in chilled and frozen storage, IBL Cold Stores provide solutions for UK food manufacturers, suppliers and retailers. Because the refrigeration equipment runs 24/7, the site can consume almost 5 million kWh of electricity a year. To help make this more sustainable, Mypower installed 745.18kWp of solar PV on their roof which included 2,014 panels. The system will produce 590,000kWh each year, saving them £76,180 per annum.

Lye Cross Farm

Passionate about sustainability, Lye Cross Farm Bristol is a family run business. Having 3,000 tonnes of cheese refrigerated at a time and running packaging equipment requires 600,000 units of energy each year. They wanted to take their green efforts further and after speaking to us, decided to install 676 agricultural solar panels (172kW) onto the roof of their cheese packing building. 186,509kWh of electricity was produced in its first year of operation which surpassed expectations.

Rocket Rentals

Rocket Rentals is a family run business providing plant and machinery hire and sales in Gloucestershire. Back in 2011, Mypower installed a 10kWp industrial solar power system for them. The business eventually outgrew this site and after amazing results, wanted solar PV for their new site too. This included placing 30 kWp of 115 REC panels on their roof. Over 25 years, these solar panels will create an income of £175,000.

Leeways Packaging

Leeways are a family-owned business who supply thermoformed plastic packaging in the UK. It was costing them approximately £25,000 every month to use 200,000kWh and they wanted to reduce this both for the environment and to save money. They had been in talks with other solar PV providers but chose Mypower. In only 10 days, we had produced system designs, had done a detailed site survey and had a quote ready. After three months of operation, the 1,742 panelled system produced 15,650 kWh which was 9.7% more than expected. Over its 25-year warrantied life, the panels should save the company more than £3 million in electricity bills.

Gloucester Cathedral

The Church of England have their ‘Shrinking the Footprint’ campaign with an aim to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050. Installing solar panels at Gloucester Cathedral was a step towards this. A 38kW solar array was put into place which consisted of 150 commercial solar panels. We had to be careful as this is a 1,000 year old grade 1 listed building, but we got the job done! These solar panels will create 29,000kWh of energy per year and reduce costs by 25%. The installation will provide 16 tonnes of CO2 savings each year too.

Server House

Specialising in data centre requirements, Sever House make sure their IT services are both monitored and available 24/7. Because of this, costs and carbon output were high. In 2021, Mypower installed a 280kWp SolarEdge optimised solar array consisting of 728 panels. Server House will now avoid 56 tonnes of carbon emissions every year.
