For 2015 so far 32% of all new electricity capacity in the US has come from solar

Some amazing stats out from the US as reported on Cleantechnica. This table tells us about new electricity generation capacity installed across the US so far this year.

In October, ALL the new capacity was from renewables. Solar made up well over half, wind most of the rest and a little bit of bio-mass made up the 484MW of new generation. For 2015 so far, 32% of all new capacity in the US has come from solar, ahead of natural gas at 29%.

The story for coal fired generation is bleak; there has been no new coal fired generation commissioned in 2015. The US has huge and powerful coal miners but the effectiveness of their Washington lobby may come to nought if they haven’t got a market for their coal.
