Spain's 'sunshine tax' is set to be abolished
News that Spain has finally seen sense (and a change of government) and is to abolish its ‘sunshine tax’ is welcome.
This tax was levied on home owners and businesses which generated their own electricity from solar, even if they used it themselves. The grid energy companies in Spain invested wisely and bought the best politicians money can buy; this may be considered cynical but it’s hard to otherwise explain why a country so suited to self generation from solar would introduce such a bizarre policy.
Spain has abundant sunshine and high grid energy prices; without government interference and the energy companies lobbying, the country should be solar powered.
