Audi team up with Chinese solar manufacturer to create solar glass roof

We’re often asked whether it would be feasible to embed solar cells into the roof of a car to help charge the battery. Audi has now teamed up with Chinese solar manufacturer Hanergy to create a fully glass roof with integrated solar cells which will provide electricity for peripheral functions such as air conditioning and heaters. This means a reduced demand on the battery and an increased range.

Audi has stated that it will have three all electric models on the market by 2020. Whether this technology makes it to any of these cars remains to be seen.
