CEO of National Grid Steve Holliday discusses centralised generation and grid distribution

Turkey votes for Christmas, shock!

Fascinating interview with Steve Holliday, CEO of National Grid, on the CleanTechnica blog. Holliday says that the game is up for huge, centralised generation and grid distribution which is brave talk from someone who runs a company which makes millions from ..er… huge, centralised generation and grid distribution.

He makes some extremely valid points though, particularly when he observes how much solar generation capacity is being added and how much demand this removes from the grid

“The amount of solar being added to the system is incredible. 1500 MW in the first three months of this year”

We particularly like this line, which chimes with what we’ve been saying for the past five years

“From a consumer’s point of view, the solar on the rooftop is going to be the baseload"

His comments about the future of electricity demand are interesting and will make scary reading for shareholders of Big Oil
