Fossil fuels, it seems, are going to be phased out by the end of the century
There’s some big talk from the G7 jolly in Bavaria today. Fossil fuels, it seems, are going to be phased out by the end of the century.
Quite what will remain of a hydrocarbons industry by 2030 let alone 2099 remains to be seen. This might just be stating the bleeding obvious rather than setting out an ambitious target. That said, this might have been an easier commitment for the Europeans to make given their dwindling oil and gas reserves. The US and Canada, with massive shale and tar sands reserves may have required firmer persuading.
The detail, or rather the lack of it, can be seen in the FT.
