We found this interesting graphic (courtesy of Nissan) which details the annual EU nation state spend on oil for petrol and diesel.
The UK’s €24.51bns would pay for a lot of solar/storage capacity which would mean we’d never need to import oil at anywhere near those levels ever again. That’s £20bns which would stay in the consumers’ pockets. The boost to the economy each year would be enormous. Not to mention the changes to foreign policy; we’d care a lot less about what happens in oil producing nations. OPEC summits would no longer be front page news in European media.
Across Europe, a wholesale move towards electric transport would have massive economic as well as environmental benefits. We can look forward to the end of the oil age…
