IKEA have stopped selling PV panels in its UK stores

IKEA have stopped selling PV panels in its UK stores, blaming the recent cut in FiT subsidies.

We were always puzzled by their decision to retail panels in the first place; in order to qualify for FiTs,  consumers have to have their systems installed by an MCS accredited supplier. DIY enthusiasts buying panels from IKEA and fitting them themselves wouldn’t qualify for FiT payments anyway unless they were MSC accredited and in that case they were always more likely to buy their panels from a trade wholesaler rather than a retailer.

What the reduction in FiTs, and the eventual removal of all subsidy, should mean is that there is more appetite for householders doing DIY installations, not less. IKEA are reported to be thinking of revisiting this later in the year, and they may find the market more interested. As with anything in life, timing is everything.
