Major car makers are rushing to tell us of their new electric models

It seems that all the major car makers are in a rush to tell us about their electric ambitions. Both Ford and VW have announced mass market electric models this week and, not to be outdone, Jaguar is shouting about its entry into Formula E.

We think that the quote from Nick Rodgers, engineering chief at JLR, tells us which way they think the wind is blowing

“It is my belief that over the next five years we will see more changes in the automotive world than in the last three decades.

“The future is about being more connected and more sustainable; electrification and lightweight technologies are becoming more important than ever as urbanisation continues to increase."

We think that Jaguar and Landrover are in a good place to move towards an all electric model line up; they have been basing production on aluminium body shells for some time and know a thing or two about engineering lightness into a car structure. The Formula E car looks great too.
