A leaked report suggests that the French company trusted to build that whitest of pachyderms, Hinkley C, will need a state subsidy from the French state to pay for the clean up of ageing nuclear plants in France.

So, they get a massive state bung to build a new nuclear power station in the UK whilst receiving state bungs to clean up their old ones in France - nice business.

The fact that EDF cannot build and operate nuclear power stations without massive government subsidies to build, run and then decommission nuclear capacity suggests that this form of generation isn’t the panacea some nuclear evangelists would have us believe it be.
