Your business no longer needs planning permission to install PV on its roof

This looks like it may has slipped quietly under the radar, but from April 15, new permitted development rights mean that your business no longer needs planning permission to install PV on its roof.

The full, weighty and somewhat tedious detail can be found here..

but the salient point is summarised thus:

7.12 A new permitted development right which will apply to the installation, alteration or replacement of Solar Photovoltaics (PV) on the roofs of nondomestic buildings, up to a capacity of 1 Megawatt, subject to certain limitations.

We aren’t sure what is meant by that ominous phrase ‘subject to certain limitations’ but we will dig deeper and let you know.

This is good news and removes one more layer of resistance to businesses in the UK removing the threat that woeful energy policy presents to their future profitability.
