Another new record low price for solar electricity has been set in the UAE. JinkoSolar, in partnership with a Japanese industrial firm, have won a contract to install 350MW of solar generation at a rate of $24.20/MWh. This equates to 1.77 pence per kWh hour.
This is around ten times the price UK companies pay for grid electricity and, get this, one fifth of the price that the government has guaranteed EDF for electricity generated by Hinkley C, assuming that this fool of a project ever gets built.
This incredibly cheap energy is possible because of the scale of the increase in solar manufacturing which brings down prices.
