Their latest announcement could be a real game changer. Samsung claim that use of graphene to coat the battery cathodes almost doubles storage capacity of the battery without adding weight. The benefits for use in electric cars - doubling the range - and in businesses wanting to store their own energy, are obvious.

We can expect many more announcements like this in the next couple of years as the wall of money being thrown at battery technology starts to yield results.
