Tesla’s much anticipated domestic and commercial battery is launched
Well here it is. Tesla’s much anticipated domestic and commercial battery is launched and we think this is something rather special.
Musk’s comparison with the move from landline telephones to mobile technology is apt; we only need to look at how mobile communications has enabled African economies to grow where once the lack of landline infrastructure held them back. Cheap, effective batteries will do the same thing for energy, allowing houses, factories, schools and hospitals to generate, store and control their own energy.
In the UK it will allow all those households which have had PV installed in the last few years to actually use the electricity they generate during the day rather than sell it to the grid for a pittance.
When we first looked at Li-on battery systems three years ago, a 10kWp system was the size of a fridge freezer and cost around £16,000.00. Tesla are offering the same capacity in something with the same footprint as a large TV and for around £3.000.00. We can expect this improvement in capacity and price to continue as the market expands.
This is all good.
