The taxpayer will be picking up the tab for Hinkley C
Just in case anyone believes the line from the nuclear lobby that nukes are a low cost answer to our energy problems, this piece in The Guardian (and most of the other serious papers) should set things straight.
Here, as in France, the taxpayer ends up picking up the tab for cleaning up nuclear sites. The costs are always underestimated and with the taxpayer underwriting them, it is practically a blank cheque for the contractors involved.
Hinkley C is receiving state guarantees just to get it built; does anyone really imagine that EDF will pay for decommissioning it themselves?
