Taj Foods
384.3 kWp (854 panel) installation
A taste of Taj Foods
Based in Sheffield, Taj Foods is a family-run producer and distributor of authentic South Asian foods, supplying major retailers and wholesalers across the UK and Europe. Founded and managed by a team of brothers, the company continues to grow while staying true to its roots in quality, community and sustainability.
The perfect recipe for sustainability
As a family-run company, Taj Foods takes pride in operating responsibly and sustainably. With cold storage facilities running 24/7, energy consumption is a major operational cost and a key area for improvement.
The business was motivated to explore solar PV for several reasons:
- A recently installed new roof made the timing ideal for solar.
- Increasing supply chain pressure to work with sustainable partners.
- Awareness that competitors were already installing solar, highlighting the importance of keeping pace with industry expectations.
- A genuine commitment to reducing their environmental impact.

Serving up the right solution
Following an initial assessment, Mypower proposed two system sizes based on the site’s roof space and energy usage. After reviewing the options, Taj Foods chose the larger 384.3kWp system to maximise solar generation and long-term savings.
Mypower’s team managed every stage of the project, from design and DNO approval to installation and commissioning, ensuring a smooth, efficient process with minimal disruption to operations.
Tasting the benefits
By generating their own clean electricity, Taj Foods will save around 80% on electricity costs compared to buying power from the grid at 22p/kWh. In the first year alone the system is projected to deliver £63,044 in combined income and savings. Over a 10-year period, these savings are expected to reach approximately £678,976, giving the business a payback period of just 3.6 years.
Solar power is now helping Taj Foods cut running costs, strengthen their sustainability credentials within the supply chain, and future-proof their energy use for years to come.
