Britain readies 'last resort' measures to keep the lights on

If further proof were needed that energy (like healthcare and education) is far too important to allow politicians anywhere near it,  then here’s some prima facie evidence.

Ed Davey has proudly unveiled his cunning plan to keep the lights on.  This splendid wheeze involves asking firms to volunteer to have their supply cut of and paying them to do so.  They get paid again if they do actually need to have their energy restricted.
